Students Industrial Visit - Cochin Shipyard, Cochin

On 24/Jan/2026, 20 No's of students along with 4 Teaching Faculty visited to Cochin Shipyard Limited, Kochi. It was a highly informative experience for students of the Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) department. The visit provided practical exposure to large-scale electrical systems, power distribution networks, and automation technologies used in the shipbuilding and ship repair industry. It helped bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-time industrial applications. During the visit, students were introduced to various electrical installations and operations within the shipyard, including power generation and distribution systems, motor control centers, switchgear panels, and lighting systems used onboard ships. We also gained insights into the role of electrical systems in propulsion control, automation, and safety mechanisms. The engineers explained the importance of preventive maintenance, fault protection, and energy management in ensuring efficient and safe ship operations. The interaction with industry professionals helped students understand the practical challenges faced by electrical engineers in handling high-voltage equipment, control systems, and automation in a marine environment. Emphasis was also given to industrial safety standards, grounding practices, and the use of modern monitoring and control technologies.

Overall, the industrial visit to Cochin Shipyard was an enriching learning experience for EEE students. It enhanced our technical knowledge, improved our understanding of real-world electrical engineering applications, and motivated us to explore career opportunities in core electrical and marine industries. The visit also strengthened teamwork and professional awareness, making it a memorable and valuable experience.
